These are my super worms and beetles. The beetles are living in an open-topped plastic container with fairly high sides filled with about an inch of wheat bran. I put in an egg carton top for them to climb and hide in. They also lay their eggs on it. About once a week I replace it and put the old one in a separate container with about 5 inches of wheat bran for the eggs to hatch in. I leave it for about two weeks to make sure all the eggs have hatched and then take it out at times having layers of them on top of each other. Once a week I pick out all the worms that have grown large enough to safely grab without squishing them and put them in another container so they don't eat the babies. I feed the beetles and worms everyday leftover veggies or fruit and keep them at between 85 and 90 degrees. They like it hot! The eggs hatch faster and the worms grow a lot faster at higher temperatures.
When they reach full size or close to I put some of them in a pupate chamber and keep them in a dark warm place. Takes a week or two for them to pupate.
I've drilled holes in the top of each chamber for air circulation.
Once they start to curl up it's a good sign they are pupating normally.
When the beetles first emerge they are white and very fragile. I wait till they are medium brown before I take them out to put them with the other beetles which can kill them if their shell isn't hard enough yet in a few days they are black and protected.
